Webster County CTE Tourism Program Partners with CVB and Woodchopping Festival to Welcome International Competitors
WEBSTER COUNTY, WV — Students in the Webster County Schools Career and Technical Education (CTE) Tourism Program are partnering with the Webster County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Webster County Woodchopping Festival to help prepare for the arrival of Lumber Jacks and Lumber Jills from around the world as Webster County celebrates its rich timber heritage and forest industry.

As part of the collaboration, students have been designing and hand-painting large banners that will be showcased in the Grand Feature Parade. The project gives students hands-on experience in tourism promotion, event preparation, hospitality, and community engagement while highlighting the importance of preserving and celebrating local history.

The Webster County Woodchopping Festival has long been a tradition rooted in the county’s logging culture, honoring the hardworking men and women who helped shape the region through the timber industry. This year’s festival is expected to draw competitors and visitors from across the United States and abroad, bringing international attention to Webster County and its Appalachian heritage.
This partnership is a great example of students learning through real-world experiences while also giving back to their community. The students are proud to help welcome competitors and guests to Webster County and showcase the pride they have in their history, culture, and hospitality.
Through the project, students in the CTE Tourism Program are developing valuable workforce skills including teamwork, communication, event coordination, marketing, and creative design. Organizers say the collaboration also strengthens connections between education, tourism, and economic development in Webster County.

Festival organizers encourage residents and visitors alike to attend the event and experience the excitement of competitive woodchopping, community activities, local vendors, and Appalachian traditions that celebrate the county’s deep roots in the lumber industry.
